~Lace History and the Victorian era~
The 19th century (1801-1900) is as from 1837 until 1901 known as the Victorian era in England.
It’s, of course, the era when Queen Victoria reigned in England.
Now, if you’ve read the previous posts on the ‘history of lace”, then you can see that we were about to arrive in this Victorian timeline.
And oh boy! Did Queen Vic make good use of luscious lace herself too!

~Industrial lace but still loving handcrafted lace~
So, we now had industrial looms on which lace was made.
But, peeps still so much loved the handcrafted lace.
Handmade lace had its irregularities or little flaws in the fabric, but that actually showed off the beauty of great artistic skill.
Because of the artistry, handmade lace was still highly worshipped till the end of the 19th century.

~Lace History and a Weddingdress in Honiton Lace~
As we all know by now, there are many, MANY types of lace and lace brands, all with their own signature.
And in the history of lace, we find that in the Victorian era there was also a place for a beautiful prominent type of handmade lace from Honiton (Devon, England).
Now, lace-making had already been a well-established trade in Honiton in the mid-to-late 16th century and was introduced here by Flemish (some say Dutch) refugees.
But now we have Queen Vic on the throne and what happened?
She basically put Honiton lace on the throne with her!
She obviously loved their lace and therefore mighty lengths of this beautiful lace was used in her wedding dress.
Not only that but it was also used in other attire on more than one occasion by her.
What a gigantic honor this was for Honiton lace!
