~Why the String and Thong Came About?~
Well before the noughties (apparently already in the seventies), we decided that we didn’t always want to show off a visible panty-line when wearing tight trousers, dresses, or skirts.
So, hence the invention of the string or thong to add to the array of undergarment types in the luxury lingerie realm.
Besides this, it was of course regarded as being darn sexy!
Wearing a string became quite thé thing.
And in the 90s but also in the 2000s we celebrated string-and thong-wearing as also being part of our outerwear…
~String a Ding, Ding!~
Were the noughties, oh so naughty when it came down to luxury lingerie?
Well, if showing off your g-string or thong above your outerwear counts, then kinda yes!
And if we’re talking about showing that little triangular-shaped bit of fabric at the back of a thong (or g-string), then we would even go as far as giving it a pet name, the Whale Tail.
You might wonder who started this trend?
Halle Berry comes to mind as one of the pioneers and she even wore the expose-your-string-look quite a few times down the red carpet.
~Luxury Lingerie-Inspired Outerwear~
Yes, those 2000s didn’t pass us by without a generous nod to sexy luxury lingerie…
Next to exposing the straps of a string or thong, wearing a slip dress, nightgown, camisole, corset, bodice, and bra (-tops) as outerwear, was very hip.
We find that our stars of that day, like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Pink, and the ilk, felt quite glamorous in these undergarments.
They would very happily wear this look, whether it was on stage, on the red carpet, or being caught clubbing in this luxury lingerie-inspired outerwear trend.
~This Look is Back~
The lingerie-inspired outerwear look is actually seeping back into our more recent decades!
And a lot of new luxury lingerie designs beg to be worn and shown off as outerwear or from underneath that gorgeous jacket and see-through dress.
