~Sweater Girl~
Have you heard of the Sweater Girl phenomenon before?
It apparently all started with the actress Lana Turner in particular, with her appearance in the 1937 movie “They Won’t Forget” and it certainly wasn’t forgotten.
The wearing of tight-fitting knitted tops spread through Hollywood under actresses and beyond like wildfire!
The addition of a bullet bra in the late ’40s, worn underneath the sweater, would emphasize the chest even more.
It of course caused quite a stir and was often viewed as kinda immoral when postwar youth started to wear this combo of luxury lingerie in the form of a cone bra with this form-fitting knitted top over it.

~Marilyn Monroe~
One of the most glamorous icons to pull of this look to a fabulicious T, certainly was Marilyn Monroe…
If you look back at her gorgeous images now, you’ll see a lot of pictures with the undeniable and signature Sweater Girl silhouette.
She must have had quite a lot of cone bras or bullet bras in her luxury lingerie collection and plenty of tight sweaters for sure!

~Nifty Fifties~
To be a Sweater Girl was a big thing in the fashion world of the fifties.
The ’50s were of course earmarked as being postwar and with quite a sense of freedom.
Looking at Hollywood and Pinups for the newest trends, girls wanted to express their feminine curves and boobs more.
And then there was the ideal combo…
When it came to luxury lingerie, we already had the iconic cone bra or bullet bra available to us, and wearing a tight sweater over the bra, typecasted this era as a fabulously nifty and ultra-cool one for foxy feminity!
